29th Annual Conference: ‘Nationalism and the Postcolonial’
– registration is now open

The 29th GAPS conference will take place at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 10-12 May 2018. GAPS invites abstracts for individual papers or suggested panels to be submitted by 31 Dec. 2017 and abstracts for project presentations by 1 March 2018.
The registration for the conference is now open and hotel reservations are possible at reduced rates until 28 March 2018. An early bird discount is available for conference registrations prior to 15 March 2018.

GASt biennial conference “Australian Perspectives on Migration” – Call for Papers

The upcoming biennial conference of the Association for Australian Studies / Gesellschaft für Australienstudien (GASt), "Australian Perspectives on Migration", will take place 4-6 October 2018 at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf.
The Call for Papers can be downloaded here. The deadline for paper and panel proposals is 31 March 2018. There will also be a new format for undergraduate and graduate students, "Forthcoming", and the deadline for posters as well as work in progress presentations is 18 May 2018.

VAD biennial conference “African Connections”

“African Connections” is the theme of the conference of the Association of African Studies in Germany (VAD e.V.) from 27 to 30 June 2018. The conference is hosted by the Institute of African Studies and the Centre for Area Studies at the University of Leipzig. For more details, please see the conference website.

Summer School on Black Europe Program 2018 – extended deadline

This intensive two-week course will focus on the historical and colonial legacies of European countries to discuss the origins of Black Europe and investigate the impact of these legacies on policies and legislation today. The course addresses the dimensions of race and ethnic relations that are unique to Europe, examining the ways in which conceptions of the "other" are institutionalized and reproduced.
